When I found out that Costco, a wholesale corporation similar to clubs like Sam's, were making aisles for wedding dresses, I was in awe. I couldn't believe it! Imagine walking into Wal-Mart, throwing the bread and milk in your cart, and then walking to the other side of the store to pick out your dream designer dress. That's what Costco members are doing, thanks to designer Kirstie Kelly. Samantha Critchell from the Associated Press published in her article "Costco makes a new aisle for wedding gowns" that the dresses run from sizes 2 to 24 and range in price anywhere between $699 up to $1,399 (par. 2). As a wedding dress guru, I found them to be stunning and I was surprised of the unexpectedly beautiful design. (By the way, if you see your girl admiring the dresses, you can even pick up Costco's $1,000,000 steal of a diamond ring, too.)
I think this is a wonderful representation of corporations catering to the demanding and hurried needs of our society. It's a trend you see in more and more places, making one shopping trip more and more effective. Wedding dress shopping just got that much easier, thanks to Costco. What's next, Wal-Mart packaging your honeymoon?

Dear Molly M,
ReplyDeleteHello again! I was really shocked to hear that Costco is now selling wedding dresses in their stores! That is crazy to me, but also it could be a really good thing for some people. Maybe the dresses have more practical prices for people these days which will be helpful in todays economy.
Something that was pretty shocking was when you said this; "When I found out that Costco, a wholesale corporation similar to clubs like Sam's, were making aisles for wedding dresses, I was in awe." I would be in awe too! I know that we do not have a Costco store here in Arkansas, but I can say that I have been to one before, and they are pretty empressive. They have pretty much everything you could imagine buying there, and I guess now they want to broaden their horizons and get wedding dresses as well. This is kind of weird, but hey, weird sells.
Another quote that I completely agree with is this one; "I think this is a wonderful representation of corporations catering to the demanding and hurried needs of our society." It truly is a good thing that corporations are broadening their horizons and making simple things like wedding dresses available to the public at reasonable prices, and easy to find. I'm sure corporations will keep on shocking us in the future, so for now we can just sit back and wait.
I really enjoyed reading this blog, and can't wait to come back and see what you have to see next!
SIncerely, Goldfinch
Dear Molly,
ReplyDeleteYour blog post is very interesting and could possibly be controversial depending on the person debating it. I am glad to see that clubs like Cost Co. are now making wedding dresses available for purchase. It is great to see that such a company offers a much needed product for possibly a lower price. It is also good to see that this company has everything a person needs in one store.
"Costco makes a new aisle for wedding gowns" that the dresses run from sizes 2 to 24 and range in price anywhere between $699 up to $1,399.” It amazes me to see that an item that can be so expensive, being the wedding dress, can be affordable. This quote stood out to me because being a guilty watcher of Say Yes to the Dress, I have seen wedding dresses go for four to five times that price. The dresses these days just aren’t affordable to the average person and it is good to see that Cost Co. offers this affordability. Another thing about this quote that suck out to me is the size range. Rather than a person having to order the dress, they basically have every size imaginable which makes it extremely convenient.
“As a wedding dress guru, I found them to be stunning and I was surprised of the unexpectedly beautiful design.” Even though I may not be quite the dress guru that you are, I completely agree that the design that Cost Co. offers is beautiful. I clicked on the link to the photograph and found the dress stunning. I am surprised and pleased that this place offers such an elegant dress at such an affordable price.
Thank you so much for writing about this. This really opens Americans’ eyes to see that a wedding dress can be affordable. I will continue to read your blog posts because of your interesting thought process and opinions.
Sincerely,
Bluebird
Molly,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this blog because it's right up my alley! I love weddings and everything that comes with them, including the dresses.
"I think this is a wonderful representation of corporations catering to the demanding and hurried needs of our society." This quote stood out to me because most people think that corporations are all bad and that they don't do anything good for our society. But we have living proof right here. Fashionable wedding dresses for cheaper prices, it's great.
"It seems it's always easy to find reasons why corporations are ruining our lives by the hold they have on our everyday lives." I completely agree with this statement. Corporations aren't always out to get us. Even though it may seem that way, some actually want to help us as Americans.
Thanks for writing this post! I found it to be a very different topic, away from all the bad scary corporation topics. Your topics are always interesting and I look forward to reading them each week!

Dear Molly,
ReplyDeleteFirst off I want to say I DON"T LIKE YOU...jk but i really enjoyed reading your blog. It seems like every thing today can be picked out of a Wal-Mart or other shopping mall. Now that Costco comes out with dresses its got me wondering if wedding dress places will go out of business.
You stated, " Imagine walking into Wal-Mart, throwing the bread and milk in your cart, and then walking to the other side of the store to pick out your dream designer dress." This stood out to me because i really couldn't imagine that.
You also stated, " I found them to be stunning and I was surprised of the unexpectedly beautiful design." This quote really stood out to me because if there really nice and cheap they will most likely put smaller wedding dress shops go out of business.
I really enjoyed reading your blog on how Costco is now making wedding dresses. Even though wedding dresses isn't one of my favorite things you made it worse. I will definitely come back for more.
Sincerely
Hummingbird,
Dear Molly,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea and convenience that Costco is providing for it's customers. They're catering to the changing demans in our society, which is what a good company should do. It makes them seem like they actually care about their customers and their needs...even if they just want to make money.
The fact that they have a designer making them makes it even more of a plus. That definitely makes up for the fact that you're in a grocery store also, but whatever works for you I suppose. I just like that they cared enough to bring in someone that can actually design beautiful dresses and not some generic plain, ugly white thing.
The way you talked about buying bread, but also stopping in for a wedding dress sounds so convenient. Maybe not for me, but I definitely like that they are giving their customers the option. Companies should always take risks and go out on a limb and this is definietly one of them.
I really like your blog. Nice work.
